Federal Acquisition Regulation

The Federal Acquisition Regulations System codifies and publishes uniform policies and procedures for acquisition by all executive agencies.  The Federal Acquisition Regulations System consists of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), which is the primary document, and agency acquisition regulations that implement or supplement the FAR.  The FAR System does not include internal agency guidance.

The FAR is available from Acquisition Central in both PDF and HTML format.  The PDF files can be printed out if you prefer the loose leaf version.  The HTML version can be copied to a computer and viewed in any standard web browser.

The are also several ways to search the FAR on line.  The FAR site maintained by Hill AFB has a search function for the FAR and DFARS, as well as all of the the defense agency and department supplements.

The FAR is codified in Title 48 of the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations.  The CFR is updated annually and typically is at least a year behind the other on line sources mentioned above.  See Wikipedia for an overview of the FAR Structure.

Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement

The Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) provides DoD implementation and supplementation of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).  The DFARS contains requirements of law, DoD-wide policies, delegations of FAR authorities, deviations from FAR requirements, and policies/procedures that have a significant effect on the public.

Relevant procedures, guidance, and information that do not meet the criteria for inclusion in the DFARS are issued in the DFARS companion resource, the Procedures, Guidance and Information (PGI).  Unclassified, non-confidential memoranda, guidance, and other DPAP procurement-related policy documents can be found in the appropriate PGI subpart.
